Choosing the Simple Life {Thankfulness Thursdays :: Week 5}

Today is week five of Thankfulness Thursdays where we meet up each week to share what we are thankful for from now until Thanksgiving.  You can write a simple list or focus on writing about one thing you are thankful for.  No rigid rules!

Also feel free to use the above image in your blog post if you wish!

This week I am thankful for time.  Time to be.  Time to do things.  Time to spend with people.  Time to live out big or silly dreams.

I have grown to learn that having time for things is a choice.

Just like anyone else I wish I had more time in the day.  But I rarely feel like I do not have the time to do the things that I find most important.  Or for things that are relaxing.  Or for things that I enjoy.

Instead I choose to say no.  I choose to not be busy.  I choose to only keep the priorities in my schedule so there is room for flexibility.

We all have different lives.  Different commitments.  Different schedules. This is not about comparing one person's life to another.  But I truly believe that no matter the life circumstance, there is room to choose how our free time is spent.

our one year anniversary

The first year my husband and I were married we had zero commitments outside of work.  He was working full time where he works now and I was substitute teaching.  We went from almost five years of crazy dating...being busy, staying out late, I was finishing school, we both volunteered, all the while trying to spend any and every moment we could with each other...to transitioning into a whole year of married quietness.  A year of simple living was by far one of our wisest choices.

We got a glimpse of what it was like to not be busy.  We got to experience time together.  We got to rest and be at home.  We tasted the simple life and vowed to never go back to a busy one.

Life has gotten busier and we have been able to figure out how much we can put on our schedule based on our day to day.  But for the most part, we still choose a quiet, simple, at home life, over a busy one.

Perhaps you could use some more quiet in your life.  Or maybe make time for something you have always wanted to do.  What are you willing to give up to make that happen?
