The Seattle SeaFair is a big summer event here. We have been hearing about it every year since we moved here and finally made it happen this year. Some of the highlights are the hydroplane races and Blue Angels airshow. It is a big weekend long event by the water and we decided to attend the free Friday events.
Before I get to the event, I wanted to share my new Woda bag I got for my birthday (I have the original size). It is the same material and idea as the Bogg Bag (which I also love) but is in a backpack. It proved to be the perfect summer mom bag. I was able to pack lunches, swimsuits, and all the things for me and my four kids while also still being handsfree. Then when we get home I can just rinse it off in the shower. Wet swimsuits or sand? Not a problem. It is awesome and so cute.
For the SeaFair I packed us plenty of snacks, water, and our Gathre mat to sit on (so nice that it is compact enough to throw in a bag).
We heard that parking at the SeaFair was crazy and expensive so we decided to take the Link light rail. It was a longer ride to go from Lynwood to Seattle but thankfully our kids still enjoyed it.
Once we started getting closer to the city it got more crowded. It definitely was reminiscient to our east coast metro experiences.
The kids handled it well and it provided lots of fun people watching opportunities! We also loved catching views of the the Space Needle as we rode by.
From the light rail, the SeaFair offered a free shuttle to the fairgrounds. This also was a bit of a wait and long ride. So by the time we arrived the Blue Angels were the only show left. It still ended up being a lot of fun and for a free event, we couldn't complain!
It was a long walk to get down by the water. The Blue Angels show ended up starting as we were walking. So we stopped to watch and get ourselves some fair food.
The Blue Angels flew right over us multiple times. It was pretty incredible. For someone who prefers gardens over airplanes, I was suprisingly really impressed. It was pretty cool. The kids on the other hand were pretty terrified of how loud it was.
What also impressed me? The fair food. It apparently impressed everyone based off of all the comments I got from strangers! Barbecue pork on top of a giant pile of fries.
There were plenty of booths to check out after the Blue Angels performed. The kids got some Blue Angel airplane toys that they enjoyed flying around. There is also a Blue Angels documentary that we watched the next day that everyone really enjoyed. I love when a real life experience can create a deeper understanding and interest for my kids.
We finally made it down to the water after everyone had cleared out from the shows. We will definitely plan to come earlier next time and make it an all day event. But it was a good learning experience to know what to expect and how much our kids could handle. There are other viewing places around town that you can go to that isn't part of the official SeaFair events. But we like the extra festivities and fun and are willing to make the free Friday work for us (Brent took the afternoon off of work so we could go).
And then we finished off our fun and hot afternoon with ice cream!
Then back on the lightrail we went! The free shuttle back to the Link was a huge wait so we ended up walking to the lightrail station. It was another unplanned bump in our adventure. But the kids ended up handling it okay and we tried to just enjoy the time together.
Even though we arrived late and missed a lot, the SeaFair was even more fun than I expected! We had a great time and are looking forward to being able to go again in the future.
