We recently visited Sky Nursery in Shoreline (North Seattle) and had the best time. There were lots of flowers to look at, kid's activities and a coffee shop - right up our alley! It made for a lovely mommy adventure day.
After our last outing to
pick strawberries, I decided we needed to have some sort of field trip every week where we go do something special and fun during summer break. We decided to call it "Mommy Adventure Day" and I am using it as an excuse to visit all the places I have been wanting to go but haven't made the time.
I recently heard about Sky Nursery and was very excited to check it out. Their main nursery area is enclosed but is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. It is pretty spectacular and perfect for our pacific northwest climate. It felt like you were outside yet with cover for our often rainy days.
I am trying to not rush us this summer so we had our normal leisurely wake up, I packed simple lunches, and we headed out once everyone was ready. It was a little over a thirty minute drive so I let the kids watch a dvd in the car so that I could drive to a new place with a little less stress! I like to put our Leap Frog dvds on rotation over the summer so that their screen time doubles as education. My friend who homeschools told me that
Letter Factory and
Talking Words Factory helped her kids learn how to read! We love both of these and I find that they are a good refresh for my older kids while also exposing my younger ones to the alphabet.
All smiles once we arrived and we were ready to explore!
There is a large shop when you first enter full of gardening supplies and gifts. We browsed and stopped for a quick potty break before exploring the nursery.
I loved how open and spacious the main nursery was. A perfect place for my kids to freely roam and take in all the incredible plants.
I love it when city and nature meet.
The highlight of our trip was probably this little kid's potting shed that was full of such thoughtful activities and information. It was like a mini museum and my kids loved it. We spent a lot of time here and had to come back a second time before we left.
The coffee shop was darling, tucked right in amongst the nursery. They had quite a coffee menu and plenty of treats. I tried one of their specials, a cinnamon roll latte, and the kids got steamers and hot chocolate.
We had such a fun morning out exploring somewhere new. It was then lunch and another dvd for the ride home. These mommy adventure days are quickly becoming a highlight of our summer. A summer tradition I think we might need to carry on for many years to come. Where will we go next!?
