31 Days of Creative Homemaking :: Day 20--Making the Bed

I recently read two very good posts on reasons why it is okay to not make your bed.  The Nester and Donald Miller give some interesting perspective on this topic.  I tend to always want to make the bed so these posts challenged me on letting go a bit.

But to look at the opposite side as a person who does make their bed almost every day, the reason I feel compelled to always make my bed is because, to me, an unmade bed in my home feels chaotic.

I have been reading the book Keeping House, and the author touches on this subject of making a bed:
There is something in the human soul that longs for beauty beyond necessity.  Of course it is easier not to make the bed.  But there is a substantive difference between turning down a neatly made bed in the evening and lying down in a mess of sheets left from the night before.
Beauty beyond necessity is deep within my soul.  Some days there is time to make the bed.  Other days there are more important things to focus on.

For me, I want to simplify my life enough in a way that I have the time and discipline to make my bed for the sake of beauty beyond necessity.  It might not be a realistic expectation for every single day of my life but it is definitely a way of living I would like to strive for.

Are you a made bed kind of person or a do not make the bed type of person?
