What I Have Been Wearing This Fall

The past year has been one of purging, reevaluating my wardrobe, embracing that I am in my 30's, and looking for a more simple and classic look.  I am wearing a lot of black, mostly neutrals, and a simplified beauty routine.  I am learning what works for my body, what is timeless, and how knowing these things makes me feel.

I have never shared this before but years ago I had a series called Fashionista Friday.  I posted my outfits almost every week.  And then there was a turning point that I started feeling insecure about it.  While I may always have some sort of body image issue as a woman, I honestly think I was struggling to find my style.  I lost sight of what I was trying to share when it came to what I wore.  So it was too hard and I decided to quit posting them.

Fast forward to now, a couple years later, and I find myself embracing the outfit of the day selfie.  It's less about me and more about the clothes (I like to cover my face with the phone!).  And it is about encouraging women to embrace simple outfits.  To look more creatively at what you already have in your closet.  And to make the best of whatever age, weight, or size you are.  I am not sure if I am accomplishing all of this by sharing my outfits on Instagram (#domesticfashstyle), but I know it is my intentions.  And that I can feel confident and secure in myself about.

So today I thought I would share a round up of my most recent fall inspired outfits.  Fall really is my favorite time of year and perhaps the most flattering clothing wise.  I love me some layering.

One of my favorite outfits is belting this kimono with brown details.  It's like a brand new dress.

- OUTFIT 1 -
Kimono: Charlotte Russe
Scarf: Diwali in Paris

Last fall I invested in getting new black and brown boots.  They are the same boots just different colors.  They are more of a riding boot and have the tiniest piece of hardware.  I wanted something simple and classic and these were the ones.  This year my one new piece has been this trench coat.  How did I go so long without a trench?  This jacket is so timeless and easy to wear.  Perfect for our Sacramento fall weather.  I don't even need rain (my lawn on the other hand would not mind!).

- OUTFIT 2 -
Trench Coat: London Fog from Burlington Coat Factory
Scarf: Diwali in Paris
Dress: Marshall's
Boots: DSW
Handbag: Louis Vuitton (read the story here)

For this look, it's not super fallish.  But where I live we often go back in forth between warm and cold days.  This outfit is for coping with those days where it is cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon.  Spring goes so quickly around here, there are are very few days where I can get away with pairing a jacket with shorts.  I have to take what I can get!

- OUTFIT 3 -
Jean Jacket: Gap
Shirt: Hand me down
Shorts: Ross
Flats: Steve Madden
Scarf: Ross

This outfit is a more realistic reflection of what I look like on a daily basis.  Yoga pants for the win!  I love dressing up yoga pants this time of year!  I pair it with a tank and button up for a sophisticated but super comfy weekday outfit.

- OUTFIT 4 -
Top: Hand me down
Tank Top: Sears
Yoga Pants: Victoria's Secret
Necklace: Marshall's

This dress and the next one is a similar style of a dress that I bought this past summer but these ones have longer sleeves.  They are fitted on top and are loose right at the stomach.  It is quite possibly the most flattering cut for my body.  I am in love with these dresses and they are so comfortable!

- OUTFIT 5 -
Dress: TJ-Maxx
Belt: Thrifted
Earrings: Burlington Coat Factory

It's not black but it's almost brown.  A little color to wear with all my neutrals.

- OUTFIT 6 -
Dress: TJ-Maxx
Head Scarf: Thrifted
Earrings: Burlington Coat Factory

This pair of jeans and jacket I bought last year and it is helping me embrace the whole pants thing!  I am now trying the tennis shoes with pants thing as well!  It is hard for me to do casual but I am trying!

- OUTFIT 7 -
Jacket: Marshall's
Top: Hand me down
Jeans: American Eagle
Tennis Shoes: Nike Outlet

I don't wear a ton of accessories but when I do I am leaning towards gold.  I am really into small and unique pieces that add just a little something to my outfit without overwhelming it.  My two most recent additions are from oNecklace.  I absolutely love my initial necklace and earrings!

Thanks to oNecklace for providing these beautiful pieces for me to enjoy!
