3 Tips for Knocking Out Holiday Stress

As we are in one of the busiest seasons of the year, I do my best to take care of myself to prevent extra stress or illness.  It can be hard in the midst of all the fun. And often overwhelming, these activities that come with the holidays.  But I have learned over the years, that I will enjoy this time much more if I am doing what I know will help my body get through it.

I am excited to partner with Abreva® today in sharing a few tips for staying confident even when suffering from a cold sore.  For me, cold sores are usually the first physical sign that I am overworking myself.

As a teenager, I used to suffer through hideous cold sores.  It was just one more thing that an awkward high school student has have to deal with!  But now, I have learned to notice the signs of that first tingle on my lip to pull out the Abreva®! You could Knock out your cold sore in 2.5 days*. Only Abreva® can do it, when you treat at the first sign**.

Now, you may be a lucky one who doesn't have to deal with cold sores.  Either way, we can all use a little help in keeping the stress level down during this busy holiday season!  Today I am sharing my go to tips on how to stay sane by taking care of yourself!

1. Reclaim Your Time

When it seems like I have a hundred things on my to do list, I try to start seeing how I can use my time more efficiently.  It is tempting to cut out the things I do for myself to fit in everything, but this only ends up leading to burnout potentially.

Instead, I try to maximize my time.  For my beauty routine, I recently switched over to just using mascara and bronzer.  I realized I didn't need to spend so much time putting make up on or completely neglecting it all together.  By having a more streamlined routine I have something simple and realistic that I can use everyday so that I can feel my best.

Another area where I reclaim my time is with meals.  For breakfast and lunch, when I am running from one thing to another, I make sure to have all my meal prep ready so that I have no excuse not to eat something good for my body.  My morning shake routine has all fruit or vegetables already prepped so that I can throw it all in the blender with a scoop of protein powder!

Whatever areas of your life that you know are important but can be time consuming, reconsider your plan of action to make it easier on yourself!  The simplest routines make these good for you things quickly become daily healthy habits!

2. Beauty of Confidence

I always laugh on days where I am not quite feeling that great about myself and then my husband gives me a genuine compliment not knowing how I am feeling about myself that day!  We are so much harder on ourselves than we need to be at times, when those around us simply see our beauty.  It is one thing to have long term goals and aspirations to move towards being our best.  But it is also okay to feel mediocre but wear the beauty of confidence despite that.

So much of how we think about ourselves comes from our mindset.  I try to do little things like not openly criticize myself in real life or in photos.  And if one of my go-to holiday dresses isn't fitting quite right, I am okay with putting on a simple and comfortable black dress with sparkly earrings.

We can let how we feel about ourselves and temporary inconveniences (like cold sores!) get in the way of enjoying this joyous season.  I say make the best of it by showing confidence and enjoy this time that only comes once a year!

3. Know Yourself

No matter your gender, age, and life season you are in, at the end of the day you have to know yourself.  We are all different and so knowing what your body personally needs will help you stay sane when things get crazy.  For me, I know regular exercise keeps both my mind and body in check.  I can go about the rest of my responsibilities being a more balanced version of myself.

Another area is what I put into my body.  I know what types of foods automatically trigger an upset stomach or overeating session.  By knowing my own personal triggers, I can set myself up to be in the best place possible so that when life's outside influences that I can't control come at me, I can handle the added pressure.

If you do not feel like you know your body's triggers very well, consider taking a week to really focus in, maybe take a few notes, and notice what your body needs from you.
