When Parents Become Grandparents: Celebrating Grandparents Day

This post is written in partnership with the #HallmarkAtWalgreens #CardForTheAges campaign, sponsored by Hallmark at Walgreens and all opinions are my own.  Thank you for supporting the brands that help make this blog possible.

Now that our son is here my husband and I get to see our parents as grandparents.  Both sets of parents already have grandchildren, but we get to experience what that really means to us for the very first time.

Growing up I did not get to spend a lot of time with my grandparents.  I had a good relationship with them but did not have the same opportunities our son will have.

As a married adult I have grown fond of the new relationship I have with my parents.  Gone are the days of curfew and school work.  Instead, over the past decade, we have been able to form more of a friendship.  Now that I have a child of my own that relationship is evolving into something even more precious and sweet.  I now see them with my son, an extension of my husband and I, and they sure love him a lot!

No matter the life season, physical distance, or busy schedule, I know that our son's grandparents will always be a part of his life.  They are already so invested in these few short months of his life so far.  I always yearned for a closer relationship with my own grandparents so knowing my son will get this brings my heart great joy.

As we approach Grandparents Day this year, I wanted to make sure that I let our parents know how much we love them.  While our baby boy cannot write his own card quite yet, I thought it fitting that we gave a card from all of us, in appreciation of them now as well as for the years to come.

Our little guy is truly lucky to have two sets of awesome grandparents.  I look forward to watching the relationship grow between them.

While our son is just approaching the two month mark, I am still figuring out a groove to this new life we have together.  I don't want to forget trying to fit in showering regularly and making sure I feed myself!  Getting Grandparents Day cards would not be near the top of my to do list if it became too complicated.

But luckily Walgreens makes my life a whole lot easier by being a quick and convenient place to stop in to pick up some Hallmark cards and whatever else I might need that day.  This trip I literally jumped out of the car while my husband waited for me with our sleeping baby and I was in and out with my cards in just a matter of minutes.

It is so easy to get caught up in the chaos of figuring out a newborn.  But I am learning that things like thoughtfulness, doing nice things for others, and taking care of myself are still necessities when caring for a baby.  I am glad to show this appreciation to our parents, who long ago went through these same early days of parenting.

This Grandparents Day is a special one for us as we celebrate our parents and their new relationship with our son.  These early days of firsts are so meaningful.  I am grateful to take a moment and really grasp the wonderful gift of grandparents our son has.

Stop into your local #HallmarkAtWalgreens to pick up a #CardForTheAges to let a grandparent know how much you appreciate them!
